SNATCH - This seminar will focus on the components of the snatch lift. Zach will go through the snatch progression and will teach the different positions and movements needed to perform this technical olympic lift. Please sign up through our website for the seminar. Space is limited so you MUST sign up to reserve a spot. Seminars are for Sandia CrossFit members only. No Open Gym on this day. Seminar will run from noon to 2 p.m.

It's Memorial Day so class times will be different today. We'll have classes at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. The grill will be up and running so bring your own food and beverages, and hang out after the WOD!
In an effort to give our members a well-rounded experience, we're trying our very best to bring yoga back to Sandia CrossFit because it can't be all about killer WODs and heavy lifting! On Saturday, May 17, we're offering a free yoga class at 1 p.m. All of you are invited. We're trying out a new instructor and we want YOUR feedback. Hey team, Zach got to give a rant so I want to also!
As we finish the Open and the bootcamps Sandia CrossFit will begin preparing for a new season. We're rolling out new programs, seminars, and training opportunities and we'll be expanding both our equipment and our class schedule! But before we talk about all that fun stuff we need to ask for a bit of help. A 10,000sqft facility is hard enough to keep clean in a normal setting and we're asking everyone to spend a little bit more time ensuring they put away everything they use. Nearly every class bars or med balls or abmats get left out. Chalk (both the gymnast and the sidewalk) litters the gym and we pick up dozens of plastic water bottles a day. Do us a favor and take a second to look around the space you use during a WOD. The chalk you left on the pull-up rig may not seem like a big deal but it really does matter to the coaches who end up collecting it every class. Also, we are putting a mini-ban on dogs in the gym. Although we love to see their furry faces, they are creating distractions, smell, and copious amounts of fuzz around the building. If you'd like to bring your pups, please restrict it to Sundays only.
On a lighter note, we have tons of cool stuff coming this year. First, we're unveiling a new class schedule beginning May 1st. Rather than the hourly evening schedule we currently use we will be switching to a half-hour based system. The classes will still be one hour long but will begin every half hour. Although the details are being fleshed out we'll most likely have a 4:30pm, 5pm, 5:30pm, 6pm, and 6:30pm regular class every weekday! This should create smaller evening classes and allow people to hop into classes taught by their favorite instructors. However, because we will only have one instructor per class we will be a little more strict about class size caps... so make sure you sign in!
For those of you who found the Olympic Lifting to be a struggle or a limiting factor in your workouts for the open you may consider taking the upcoming Olympic Weightlifting seminar. It's taught by some of the best Olympic Weightlifting coaches in the country and you can expect significant gains in technique and PRs. You do NOT need to be CrossFit certified to take this course and you'll be in class with at least myself, Zach, Jeff, and Sibo so join us, it ought to be a good time. It's well worth the money if you'll be doing CrossFit for a long time. You can register for the seminar here.
We're actively working on a couple of other programs as well. We hope to be relaunching our dormant CrossFit Kids program as well as a long-awaited CrossFit Longevity program designed for athletes over the age of 70. In addition to all of this, Zach will be designing and implementing various in-house specialty seminars ranging from basic gymnastics to nutrition. To top this all off, with the bootcamps and Open ending we should have some time to order new apparel, jump ropes, water bottles, etc. so you can sport SCF and passively annoy all of your friends with your CrossFit enthusiasm!
The last thing I want to add is that the bootcamps are ending. There will be a lot of new, unfamiliar faces wandering the gym and our single rule is still in force. If you see someone you don't know and do not introduce yourself.... BURPEES!

Ok guys and gals I got on this fancy computer gizmo everyone’s talking about and typed up another rant! Prepare yourselves! I just want to take a minute to congratulate everyone who participated in the Open. It was extremely exciting to watch each of you rise to the occasion and perform things that many of you thought were impossible. I think I speak for all the trainers when I say that we are proud and humbled to be a part of this with some of you getting your first Chest to Bar Pull Up and then throwing in 15 more for good measure, stringing together 20 or more Double Unders under pressure when you could only do 3 previously, and even PR’ing your Deadlift in a workout after having already done 50 deadlifts! These are all amazing feats and just a small fraction of what was accomplished. We applaud your effort and your hard work in taking on this challenge. I'd also like to thank everyone else at the gym for still coming on Fridays, putting up with the odd way classes were being run, showing support, and participating in the workouts, especially the last one! We couldn't have done any of this without you. So thank you!
With all that being said and the Open behind us, now is not the time to start slacking off. Take these weeks following the competition to set better movement and eating habits. Don’t modify a workout down just because you think you can’t do it. Try the movements first or perform it prescribed as long as possible. While the experience is fresh in your mind begin to hold yourself to a higher standard. Knowing what skills were lacking in the Open ask for help with these in classes. When you come in warm up by practicing your weaknesses. Whatever it takes for you to achieve your goals use this opportunity and run with it! We as trainers are happy to help in any way we can so never hesitate to ask. We look forward to working with all of you over the next year and bringing you all one step closer to taking down Samantha Briggs and Rich Froning! Fear not though, things won’t be all hard work and no play in the days to come. I offer you a ray of hope! In the true spirit of Sandia CrossFit and celebrating our collective awesomeness it’s about time we had another shindig! Let’s all celebrate the end of the Open, Boot Camps coming to a close and why not throw Cinco de Mayo in the mix as well! Since we see each other everyday in sweaty, chalky workout gear the theme for the party will be “Dress to Impress”,“If Looks Could Kill”, “007”. Whatever you want to call it come wearing your classiest evening attire and maybe bring a Martini glass or two! The festivities will be kicking off at 8pm on Saturday May 3rd at the gym. We’ll do this thing potluck style so bring your favorite dish that you want to impress others with! Get your babysitters now, designate your drivers and have a Happy Friday gang!
